A Peoria High School student was with minor injuries after colliding with a Peoria Police patrol vehicle outside the school, according to police spokesperson Kristopher Babros.

The officer was not injured in the incident. The crash prompted an immediate 911 call and rapid response from first responders.

Detections closed southbound 83rd Avenue between Cholla and Edwards streets for several hours while they conducted their investigation, Babros confirmed.

Peoria Unified School District spokesperson Sara Meredith stated that Principal Sammy Chagolla notified staff and parents about the incident via letter.

The student was described as alert at the time of aid, with family members notified shortly after, Chagolla said.

Authorities remind parents to discuss the incident with their children, noting that such emergencies can be distressing.
