Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver Rashee Rice Remains in Jail as Minicamp Begins
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice continues to serve a 30-day jail sentence as the team begins mandatory minicamp today.
According to court records, Rice violated his probation last month by testing positive for THC, stemming from charges related to a multi-car crash in Dallas over two years ago. He is expected to be released on June 16.
Dallas County District Judge Ernest White modified Rice's community supervision conditions, requiring him to submit urinalysis tests at least monthly and report results to the Dallas County Community Supervision and Corrections.
Witnesses reported that Rice recently underwent knee surgery before being jailed, limiting his ability to rehabilitate his injury.
The 26-year-old Rice missed the first six games of the previous season after violating the NFL's personal conduct policy due to the aforementioned crash where he drove erratically at speeds approaching 120 mph. He fled the scene but later accepted responsibility.
Rice surrendered after a warrant was issued and pled guilty to two third-degree felony charges in July. His sentence included 30 days in jail, five years of probation, and restitution for victims' medical expenses.
Last season, Rice recorded 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns, contributing to the Chiefs' 6-11 record. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract, with his tenure including a Super Bowl title during the 2023 season.
