MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Investigators are examining a suspected burglary at the home of former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, who perished in a plane crash last December, with authorities identifying a married couple as persons of interest.
According to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, the couple allegedly conspired to break into the Biffle residence on January 8, stealing approximately $30,000 in cash, two handguns, and various items of NASCAR memorabilia. The investigation follows the tragic crash on December 18, 2022, that claimed the lives of Biffle, his wife, their two children, and three others.
Detectives have executed more than 40 search warrants as part of their inquiry. Sheriff Darren Campbell noted the suspects knew the Biffles and reportedly engaged in extensive planning for financial gain related to their deaths. The Sheriff's Office has withheld the names of the couple pending arrest.
Surveillance footage identified a woman familiar with the home's layout, spending nearly six hours in the residence. Evidence indicated that electronic devices were active during the burglary, though only estate administrators should have had access at that time. License plate readers placed the suspects' vehicle near the Biffle home on the night of the break-in.
Authorities are also investigating potential financial crimes linked to the Biffle estate. Allegations include unauthorized access to bank accounts and financial transactions using personal information changed online. Fraudulent checks have reportedly been cashed, with the case spanning multiple states.
Meanwhile, the plane crash has led to lawsuits against the estates of Biffle and pilot Dennis Dutton, with claims exceeding $15 million from the victims' families citing negligence.
Further details are expected as the investigation continues.
