DEERFIELD, IL (WKOW) — A single-engine aircraft crashed in unincorporated Deerfield at 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
Authorities reported the plane struck the roof of a townhome and two gas meters. The pilot, the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported on the ground.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office indicated that the pilot managed to avoid significant damage to nearby homes. The origin of the flight remains unclear; while some reports suggest it departed from Dane County Regional Airport, officials there did not confirm that information. Data from ADS-B Exchange indicates the aircraft may have taken off from Necedah, though officials at that airport also could not verify those details.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with the Lake County Sheriff's Office collaborating with the FAA and federal officials.
