Two commuter buses collided in the Pentagon Metro Station south parking lot Friday around 7:20 a.m., injuring 23 passengers, authorities said.
According to the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA), the crash involved an OmniRide bus and a Fairfax Connector transit bus.
Officials said 18 patients were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment, and 5 were treated at the scene.
PFPA said all bus traffic is being diverted to the Pentagon City station and asked commuters to make alternate travel plans.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) activated an alternate transportation plan for affected riders, authorities said.
PFPA said the Metro Access Road remains closed while first responders work the scene and officials investigate the cause.
