MADISON (WKOW) — A motorcycle accident early Friday morning near American Family Drive and American Parkway claimed the life of a 40-year-old man. Bounpheng C. Souvannasone, a resident of Madison, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office.
Preliminary findings from the forensic examination revealed that Souvannasone succumbed to injuries sustained during the collision. The incident was reported to authorities shortly after 12:30 a.m. on September 18.
Reports indicate that as the motorcycle navigated a curve, it struck a light pole and subsequently caught fire. The Madison Fire Department observed a significant trail of debris along the roadway, suggesting that excessive speed was a factor leading to the crash.
During the response to the accident, Madison police located a passenger from the motorcycle some distance from the road. Emergency services brought the passenger to an ambulance for treatment. Authorities later confirmed that the passenger sustained only minor injuries.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
