NEW ORLEANS — The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released a preliminary report on the Cessna plane crash that occurred last month near Lake Pontchartrain.
The crash resulted in the deaths of two pilots from Mississippi, identified as Taylor Dickey, 30, of Biloxi, and Navy Lt. David Jahn, of Illinois, who was stationed in Biloxi. Both were pursuing commercial pilot's licenses at the time of the incident.
According to the report, the aircraft was en route to Lakefront Airport when it experienced a descent lasting approximately 27 seconds before reaching its last recorded position. This location was about 500 feet from where the wreckage was ultimately found.
The report further stated that the plane broke apart upon impact with the water. A comprehensive report detailing the investigation will be made available at a future date.
