Boulder County Cyclist Identified After Fatal Crash
GOLD HILL, CO — Aidan Smith, 24, was killed early Saturday morning after a cycling accident on Gold Run Road, according to the Boulder County Coroner's Office.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. when Smith and four friends left the Gold Hill Inn. As Smith rode south on Gold Run Road, he and a friend, who was also on a bicycle, separated from the group traveling in a vehicle. Smith's friend discovered him at the bottom of a 50-foot embankment, where he was found still breathing. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Initial reports inaccurately stated Smith's age as 25, but the Coroner's Office confirmed he was 24. Gold Run Road was closed from approximately 1 a.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday to accommodate the investigation and emergency response.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
