Middletown, Ohio — A 71-year-old man died after an SUV was pulled from a pond off Manchester Road early Thursday, May 7, authorities said.
Divers from the Butler County Sheriff's Office and other first responders reached the pond shortly before 4:30 a.m. after a report of a submerged vehicle with a person inside, according to the Middletown Division of Police.
Officers attempted to rescue the occupant before he was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.
The preliminary investigation indicates the SUV left the roadway, struck a fence and came to rest in the pond, Police Chief Earl Nelson said.
The Middletown Division of Police Traffic Unit and the Butler County Coroner's Office are investigating.
