Major Crash Causes Significant Delays on Eastbound I-70
DENVER, CO — A multi-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 70 at the I-225 interchange disrupted traffic significantly Tuesday morning at 6:15 a.m., authorities said.
Only one lane of eastbound I-70 and one lane of northbound I-225 to eastbound I-70 remained open, leading to severe backups. Drivers reported delays extending as far back as Quebec Street, approximately 4.5 miles from the crash site.
Emergency services responded promptly, working to remove the vehicles involved. A private tow service was on scene as of 7:20 a.m., but no official timeline for lane reopening was provided.
As of 7:35 a.m., traffic continued to slow before Quebec Street, with travel times reported at over 60 minutes. An additional crash involving a semi on eastbound I-270 near Vasquez further compounded delays, with backup extending to I-25.
By 8:00 a.m., one more lane on eastbound I-70 was reopened, helping to relieve some congestion, though backups still persisted near Quebec Street, creating a 40-minute delay on westbound I-70. Other notable incidents, including a rollover on Colfax at Knox Court, were also reported.
At 9:05 a.m., all lanes on eastbound I-70 were cleared, but recovery from the incident is expected to take time.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and advise drivers to seek alternate routes, such as 47th Avenue or 58th Avenue, which are experiencing heavy traffic.
