Broussard, LA — April 15, 2023 — A vehicle plowed into paradegoers at the Louisiana Lao New Year Festival Saturday afternoon, leaving 18 individuals injured.

According to the Louisiana State Police, the incident occurred at the intersection of Savannakhet and Melancon roads. Acadian Ambulance reported transporting 11 victims by ground and 2 by air following the collision.

Authorities identified the driver as 57-year-old Todd Landry of Jeanerette. He was arrested on charges of Driving While Impaired, First-Degree Negligent Injuring, Careless Operation, and Open Container. Landry exhibited signs of impairment with a blood alcohol level of 0.137%, well above the legal limit of 0.08%, according to state troopers.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office extended its thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families in a Facebook statement, emphasizing community support during this difficult time.

Witness reports indicated that Landry trapped one person under the vehicle during the crash. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities working to gather additional details.

Landry was booked into the Iberia Parish jail, as Louisiana officials, including Governor Jeff Landry and Attorney General Liz Murrill, offered support for the victims. Murrill stated, “I'm praying for all those injured and impacted by this terrible tragedy.”
