FARMVILLE, N.C. — As of 4:00 p.m. Sunday, all traffic remains shut down on Interstate 587 following a serious crash.
I-587 is closed in both eastbound and westbound directions between U.S. 258 and Wesley Church Road. North Main Street is also closed between Contentnea BBQ and Stantonsburg Road due to safety concerns.
According to the Farmville Fire Department, the closure of the eastbound lanes has been extended to Exit 42 after an additional vehicle collision was reported. Officials advise drivers to avoid the area to allow first responders to operate safely and to mitigate further congestion.
Road closures include:
- Eastbound lanes: Closed from Exit 42 to Wesley Church Road.
- Westbound lanes: Closed from HWY 258 to Wesley Church Road.
- North Main Street: Closed from Contentnea BBQ to Stantonsburg Road.
Emergency crews are currently responding to the incident, which reportedly involved vehicle entrapment near mile marker 47.5. Authorities have not yet provided an estimated reopening time. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes until further notice.
