School Bus Accident in North Stonington Claims Life of 11-Year-Old
NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. (WJAR) — An 11-year-old boy was killed Wednesday morning after being struck by a school bus while riding his bicycle. The accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. as both the bus and the boy, identified as Torren O'Grady, were traveling east on Old Colony Road. The bus reportedly struck the bicycle when it turned onto Pinecrest Road.
In response to the collision, students at nearby North Stonington High School were placed on lockdown until authorities arrived. Following the incident, school officials released students early and announced that counseling services would be made available to help them cope with the tragedy.
Pastor Sue Latourette from the Congregational Church of North Stonington offered support to the community, emphasizing the importance of coming together during difficult times. Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont expressed condolences for O'Grady's family and the community, stating that the State Police and State Department of Education are prepared to assist local schools.
