CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — A hit-and-run crash on Interstate 95 early Saturday morning left one man dead and a woman critically injured.
According to Virginia State Police, the incident occurred just before 2:25 a.m. on I-95 South near the Route 10 exit.
Troopers arrived on the scene to find a Nissan Altima and a Jeep Compass stopped in the right lane. The driver of the Nissan, identified as 27-year-old Anthony Lee Crawford Jr. of Chesterfield, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Jeep's driver, a 31-year-old woman from Henrico, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to VCU Medical Center.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both vehicles were parked in the right lane for unknown reasons, with the drivers standing near their doors when they were struck by a third vehicle, believed to be a white Volkswagen SUV.
Investigators noted that parts from the suspect vehicle indicate it likely sustained damage to the passenger side, including the left headlight area, and is missing a passenger-side mirror.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the crash or the hit-and-run vehicle to contact Virginia State Police at 804-750-8758 or #77 from a cell phone. Tips can also be emailed to questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
