Gorham crash results in one fatality and one injury.

One person is dead and another is seriously injured following a two-vehicle crash in Gorham on Monday evening.

Authorities responded to the incident on Brackett Road at approximately 5 p.m. A Dodge Grand Caravan overturned and became fully submerged in a nearby pond, according to police reports.

The driver of the minivan managed to escape, but two passengers were trapped inside. Gorham Fire personnel conducted a dive rescue and successfully extricated both passengers.

Both passengers were transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries. One of them, identified as 52-year-old Joyce Provencher, later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the minivan and a passenger in the second vehicle, a Honda CR-V, were also taken to Maine Medical Center. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The crash is currently under investigation by law enforcement.
