VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 55-year-old man was arrested Monday after attempting to secure a nursing job using a fraudulent ID, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VSO).
Joseph Kinney, a Lake Mary resident whose nursing license was revoked in 2022, allegedly applied for multiple nursing positions across Central Florida without a valid license. The investigation began when a hiring manager contacted Sheriff Chitwood over suspicions regarding Kinney's application.
Detectives posed as hiring coordinators and scheduled an interview with Kinney. Upon his arrival, he was taken into custody without resistance. Authorities reported that Kinney had applied for 10 to 15 positions using fraudulent credentials.
Kinney's nursing history includes licensure in Alabama, California, and Florida, with previous disciplinary actions involving drug diversion and falsifying information. He now faces two counts of practicing healthcare without a license.
The Office of the Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is assisting with the ongoing investigation, according to the VSO.
