Flight Nurse Dies in Helicopter Crash in Wilson County

A helicopter crash in rural Wilson County on Nov. 8 resulted in the death of flight nurse Allan Williams and critical injuries to two other crew members.

According to Jane Freedman, deputy CEO and chief health system officer at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Williams did not survive the incident. The other crew members, Andrew “Andy” Sikes, a critical care flight paramedic, and the pilot (whose name has not been released for privacy reasons), are both seriously injured and remain under medical care.

Freedman issued a statement urging the community to support the families of the victims. “As we grieve with Allan's family, I ask you to please join me in support of them as well as Andy, the pilot, and their families,” she said.

The LifeFlight helicopter went down in a field between Gallatin and Lebanon, and Vanderbilt University Medical Center confirmed that there was no patient aboard at the time of the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting the investigation into the incident, which has not provided further updates since the crash occurred.
