BUTTE, MT — Five teenagers survived a car crash off a 40-foot cliff near the Big M on April 7 at 12:40 p.m.
The incident occurred when the driver of a Subaru overcorrected while navigating a sharp curve. All occupants, aged 15 to 17, were assessed for injuries at a local hospital.
“Everyone started screaming and panicking after the crash,” said Carson Hanson, a backseat passenger. Initial reports indicate that no fatalities occurred.
Emergency responders from local agencies transported the teens to Butte Hospital. Two of the teens, Carson Hanson and Evelyn Hardman, were later transferred to a Billings hospital, both suffering serious spinal injuries.
Evelyn's mother reported her daughter's injuries include severe wrist and back damage, but she is beginning to walk again. Carson has been released but faces ongoing medical needs.
GoFundMe accounts have been established to assist with medical expenses for both Hanson and Hardman.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the accident's investigation. Witnesses are encouraged to share any information with the local police department.
Both Hanson and Hardman stress the importance of safe driving practices, urging peers to avoid speeding and always wear seatbelts.
This story remains under investigation by local law enforcement.
