TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A woman is dead following a multi-vehicle crash on Hoosier Heartland Corridor near County Road 700 N on Tuesday morning.
According to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office, a 2016 Ford Focus, driven by 32-year-old Kendy Provins of Indianapolis, lost control while traveling north on State Road 25 due to icy conditions. The vehicle spun and was struck by a 2011 Hyundai, which had one passenger.
The Hyundai was subsequently rear-ended by a northbound semi-trailer driven by 44-year-old Manno Laborde, sending the car off the road. A female passenger in the backseat of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, at 8:10 a.m., a 2013 Chevrolet Express passenger bus from St. Joseph High School of South Bend, traveling southbound, also lost control. The bus driver spun off the right side of County Road 700 N. There were nine juvenile male passengers on board, and authorities reported no serious injuries; all were later released.
The identity of the deceased will be released following an autopsy by the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said drugs and alcohol are not suspected, though toxicology screenings were performed as part of the ongoing investigation.
