OAK PARK, Ill. (April 3, 2023) – A driver fatally shot himself after causing a multi-vehicle crash that injured 14 people.
Authorities said Thomas Cremeens, 48, ran a red light while swerving to avoid a pedestrian, colliding with several vehicles, including a bus. Eleven individuals were transported to local hospitals, while three others were treated at the scene; none sustained serious injuries.
Witnesses reported that a bystander approached Cremeens after the accident. As the bystander walked away, a gunshot was heard, and authorities confirmed it was a self-inflicted wound.
The Oak Park Police Department is investigating the incident. Lane closures were implemented during the response and investigation.
