One person is dead following a crash that closed Route 9 in Eddington on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred near the Eddington Fire Department at approximately 1 p.m. First responders reported that a van traveling west on Route 9 crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a legally parked work vehicle in the breakdown lane, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office.
The driver of the van, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the parked work vehicle, also undisclosed by police, was transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
