16-Year-Old Student Killed in South Granville Highway Crash
SOUTH GRANVILLE, Aug. 17 — A two-vehicle collision on Highway 49 claimed the life of a 16-year-old South Granville High School student.
The fatal accident occurred at approximately 2:41 p.m. when a sedan and an SUV collided head-on. Emma Wallace was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Granville County Sheriff's Office. The driver of the SUV, a 45-year-old male, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Granville Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities reported that both vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when the crash occurred. The impact caused significant damage, resulting in lane closures for over two hours while emergency crews responded.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident, and no charges have been filed as of yet.
Witnesses reported seeing debris scattered across the highway in the aftermath of the collision. Emergency responders, including the Granville County Fire Department and EMS, provided aid at the scene.
Emergency towing services removed both vehicles, reopening the roadway at approximately 5 p.m. The community mourns the loss of Wallace, a popular student known for her involvement in school activities. Further details will be released as the investigation continues.
