EL PASO, Texas — A four-vehicle crash around 9:15 p.m. Monday on North Desert Boulevard left one man dead, authorities said.
According to the El Paso Police Department, the collision occurred in the 6300 block when a silver 2016 BMW 428i failed to control speed and rear-ended another vehicle, triggering a chain reaction.
Authorities said the driver of a Subaru Outback, identified as Jaime Andrade, 56, died from his injuries at University Medical Center.
According to a police complaint affidavit, the BMW's driver, Ambar Chavira, 19, fled the scene on foot without rendering aid. Officers later located her at a residence on Rosa Gandara Drive and noted signs of intoxication, the affidavit states.
Chavira told investigators she had consumed alcoholic beverages at the Hope and Anchor bar before driving, according to the affidavit. Authorities said she is charged with felony collision involving death and was released on bond Tuesday.
Witnesses reported another vehicle struck the wreckage moments after the initial impact.
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has opened an investigation into possible alcohol service violations. The case remains under investigation by the El Paso Police Department.
