PALM COAST, Fla. (WKRC) – A man's last words resulted in his girlfriend being charged with vehicular homicide following a February crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 24-year-old Leigha Mumby was arrested in July after a high-speed incident on Interstate 95 in Flagler County. Authorities reported that Mumby and her boyfriend, 22-year-old Daniel Waterman, were arguing when Mumby allegedly accelerated to over 90 mph and crashed into a tree.

Waterman was critically injured and later fell into a coma. After regaining consciousness, he informed investigators that Mumby had deliberately caused the collision. The incident reportedly escalated after Waterman learned of Mumby's pregnancy and received a text from another woman.

A complaint cited that during the argument, Mumby accelerated again despite Waterman attempting to exit the vehicle. Witnesses reported her stating, “I don't care what happens, you'll get what you deserve,” moments before the crash.

Both individuals sustained severe injuries, and Mumby claimed to remember waking up in pain after the accident. Waterman passed away on October 8, prompting law enforcement to upgrade Mumby's charges to vehicular homicide. She was subsequently taken to the Flagler County Jail and released on a $150,000 bond.

Mumby faced initial charges of causing serious bodily harm, and it was confirmed she had given birth following the crash. Waterman's family is pursuing custody of the newborn amid ongoing legal proceedings.
