OTTAWA COUNTY, Ohio — A Clay Township police sergeant died in a two-vehicle crash Friday around 6:37 a.m. at state Routes 51 and 795.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Sandusky Post, Sgt. Jacob Roesler, 26, was traveling southbound on state Route 51 in a marked cruiser with emergency lights activated while responding to a separate crash.

Investigators said he entered the intersection and was struck by a Tahoe.

Authorities said the impact forced both vehicles off the roadway; the cruiser hit a metal pole and the Tahoe struck a telephone pole.

The officer died at the scene from his injuries, according to OSHP.

The Tahoe's driver was transported to ProMedica Bay Park Hospital with what authorities described as minor injuries.
