Attleboro Police Officer Struck by Vehicle
ATTLEBORO, Mass. — An Attleboro police officer was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle on Newport Avenue around 5 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2026.
The Attleboro Fire Department reported that the officer was taken from the scene at 415 Newport Avenue to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening.
According to a witness, who identified himself only as Kurt, the officer had been checking the neighborhood following a 911 hang-up call. Kurt stated that the officer was crossing the street toward his cruiser when a pickup truck collided with him, causing the officer to be thrown to the ground.
Kurt noted that sunlight created significant glare along Newport Avenue at the time, which may have contributed to the visibility issues. He described the incident as unprecedented for him, saying he had seen many accidents on that road but had never witnessed a person being struck.
Emergency services were quickly notified, with Kurt calling 911 and the officer managing to radio for assistance while remaining conscious throughout the ordeal.
The Attleboro Police Department is handling the investigation into the incident.
