Safety Changes Planned on 12th Street Bridge After Fatal Hit-and-Run
Three years after the fatal hit-and-run of Gloria San Miguel, safety improvements are set to begin on the 12th Street Bridge in Cityville.
According to the Cityville Department of Transportation, the enhancements aim to increase pedestrian and vehicle safety at the bridge. The changes come following community advocacy and a review of safety measures after San Miguel was killed in a collision on March 15, 2020.
Authorities reported that San Miguel, 34, was crossing the bridge when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. Despite efforts by emergency responders from Cityville Fire Department and medical aid, she was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver has not been apprehended, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The planned safety improvements include better lighting, updated signage, and modified crosswalks to enhance visibility. Lane closures will begin next month as construction crews start work to implement these changes.
Local officials encourage residents to remain cautious while driving and walking in the area during the construction period. Further updates will be provided as the project progresses.
