Eight Injured in Ponchatoula Three-Vehicle Crash
A crash involving three vehicles in Ponchatoula sent eight individuals to local hospitals Monday night, according to authorities.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:27 p.m. on U.S. 51 North near St. Patrick's Boulevard. The vehicles involved included a Chevrolet Silverado, a GMC Terrain, and a Hyundai Tucson. Police confirmed that three children under the age of 8 were among the injured, with one child transported by air ambulance to Our Lady of the Lake-Children's Hospital in Baton Rouge.
Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson stated that some injuries were deemed “life threatening,” emphasizing the severity of the situation. Injured parties were taken to North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, Lakeview Hospital in Mandeville, and Our Lady of the Lake-Children's Hospital.
Authorities noted that blood samples were collected from two of the drivers involved. The investigation is ongoing, and police are encouraging witnesses or anyone with additional information to contact the Ponchatoula Police Department at 985-386-6548.
