ADAIR COUNTY, Iowa — A 17-year-old has died following a crash in Adair County on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred just east of Anita when a Chevrolet Equinox left the roadway, rolled over, and landed in a ditch. Authorities reported that five occupants of the vehicle were transported to the hospital, with one later succumbing to injuries.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the investigation into the crash is ongoing. Emergency services responded to the scene, and no additional details regarding the other occupants' injuries have been released.
As of now, 131 fatalities have been recorded on Iowa roads in 2023, which is 12 more than the same time last year. Over the past five years, Iowa has averaged 337 road fatalities annually.
