Several injured in wrong-way crash on I-290.

A wrong-way driver crashed on Interstate 290 in Northborough, injuring several individuals, some seriously, according to State Police.

The incident occurred Wednesday at approximately 9 p.m.

Multiple 911 callers reported a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-290.

Upon arrival, state troopers found the wrong-way vehicle had collided with another near mile marker 29, close to Exit 28 in Northborough.

Footage submitted to NewsCenter 5 depicted one vehicle overturned and fully ablaze, with another nearby also on fire and producing heavy smoke.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene to assist.

Eastbound traffic on I-290 is being diverted at Exit 27 to facilitate emergency access.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), traffic disruptions are expected to continue for several hours.

At least one individual has been transported to a nearby hospital, though the total number of injuries and severity remains unclear.

Authorities stated that further information will be provided as the situation develops.
