CHILDRESS, Texas (KVII) — A Texas state trooper was killed on Wednesday in a crash during an attempted traffic stop on US-287.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Trooper Sergio Romero, 27, was conducting a stop around 4:00 p.m. when a truck-tractor semi-trailer pulled in front of his patrol unit, resulting in a collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Trooper Romero had previously served with the Hall County Sheriff's Office before joining the Department of Public Safety in 2025. He was stationed in Childress at the time of the incident.
He is survived by his wife and two young sons. The crash is under investigation, and more details will be released as they become available.
