CALDWELL, Idaho — A 28-year-old man was arraigned Tuesday in connection with a fatal crash that occurred Monday night, killing one man and injuring three children.
Nixon Amilcar Ixcoy Lix of Guatemala faces a vehicular manslaughter charge. A Canyon County judge set his bond at $2 million, citing him as a flight risk.
Authorities reported that Lix was driving under the influence when his vehicle collided with another at the intersection of Linden Street and Kimball Avenue around 9:20 p.m. on Monday. The crash resulted in the death of Caldwell resident Miguel Vasquez and injuries to his three children.
According to a GoFundMe set up by a family friend, one child has undergone surgery and another was airlifted to Utah for critical care.
Witnesses described a loud sound similar to an explosion at the time of the crash. Tire marks and debris remained visible at the scene on Tuesday morning, as community members mourned Vasquez's loss.
Local residents expressed concerns over the intersection, citing it as a recurring site for accidents, with nine reported crashes between 2024 and 2025, based on data from the Idaho Transportation Department.
Lix is scheduled to appear in court again on June 18. Prosecutors indicate that additional charges may be forthcoming.
