Kahului Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of Kula Man
KAHULUI, HI — A 55-year-old Kula man died following a motorcycle crash in Kahului early June 1, 2023.
According to the Maui Police Department, the incident occurred around 12:24 a.m. on Pulehu Road, approximately 300 feet north of Omaopio Road. The man, identified as Bryan Rhoades, was riding a 2006 Honda Ruckus motorcycle northbound when he veered off the road and collided with a tree.
Witnesses reported that Rhoades was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was ejected from the motorcycle. He was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries on June 6.
Authorities stated that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as police have yet to confirm if speed or drugs were involved.
This incident marks Maui County's fourth traffic fatality of the year, compared to 11 fatalities at the same time last year.
