POWESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa — Iowa Highway 21 is expected to reopen by next Monday following a train-semitruck collision on June 3.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, repairs are needed for signals and guardrails on the track. The incident resulted in the death of 14-year-old Robert Orton, who was a passenger in the semitruck driven by his father, Michael Orton, who sustained injuries.
The collision derailed over 20 rail cars, but officials confirmed the train was not carrying hazardous materials.
Emergency response teams are managing the situation, and investigations are ongoing.
