UPDATE | Aug. 1: Las Vegas Metro Police arrested 27-year-old Roberto Olivas on charges of reckless driving and DUI. Authorities stated Olivas was driving a Ram 1500 truck involved in a hit-and-run at Rampart Boulevard and Vegas Drive before fleeing at high speed. The vehicle struck multiple objects, including a fire hydrant, electrical box, and a bus stop, ultimately hitting a 61-year-old man waiting there. The pedestrian was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, while Olivas sustained minor injuries and exhibited signs of impairment.
ORIGINAL REPORT: At approximately 2:24 p.m. on Thursday, a collision occurred involving a pedestrian and two vehicles near Vegas Drive and Buffalo Drive. Both the pedestrian and a vehicle occupant were transported to the hospital with critical injuries. Significant damage included a flipped vehicle and destruction to a bus stop and electrical infrastructure, causing power outages affecting around 3,500 customers. NV Energy is currently working to restore power. Authorities urge the public to avoid the area during the ongoing investigation.
