Guilford Firefighter Killed in Motorcycle Crash on I-95 South
A firefighter died in a crash on Interstate 95 South in Guilford on Friday night.
According to State Police, 32-year-old Michael Terrio was riding a Suzuki GSX-R1000R motorcycle near exit 59 at approximately 8:45 p.m. when he collided with another vehicle. Terrio was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Guilford Fire Department released a statement honoring Terrio, noting, “It is with great sadness… Firefighter Terrio was involved in a multi-vehicle accident. Despite the valiant efforts of medical personnel, he tragically passed away.” They emphasized his dedication to serving the Guilford community.
Peer support services are being offered to assist department members in coping with the tragedy. Terrio was a former lieutenant with the Kingston Fire Department and a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a sergeant in the Airborne Infantry, as noted by the Kingston Fire District.
The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven for treatment of minor injuries.
The collision remains under investigation.
