MALDEN, Mass. —
Two people were injured Tuesday in a multi-vehicle crash that sent an SUV into a coffee shop in Malden.
The incident occurred around noon on Charles Street. According to Malden Police, westbound traffic was stopped at a red light when one vehicle rear-ended another, causing the striking vehicle to reverse into the New England Coffee Shop.
Sky5 footage showed a heavily damaged black sedan on the roadway and a gray SUV in the coffee shop's parking lot.
Emergency crews utilized the Jaws of Life to rescue one person trapped inside a vehicle. Both victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Surveillance footage captured the moment the vehicle crashed into the coffee shop. Witnesses reported that nearly a dozen people were present but no customers or employees were injured.
Andres Corea, a witness who assisted the driver, described the scene: “When the policeman came out and opened the door, it was an older person. Right away, they took him out and put him on the bench. He was bleeding.”
Corea noted that the driver seemed disoriented, stating, “He said, ‘My phone doesn't work, my TV doesn't work.'” The crash remains under investigation by local authorities.
