Pamlico County, NC — A fatal accident on Kershaw Road claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl on Monday evening.
The crash involved a Kia Sorento SUV driven by the girl's mother, occurring near the 4600 block just before 8:00 p.m., according to the State Highway Patrol. The vehicle veered off the road to the right, striking a mailbox and a driveway culvert before overturning.
The 14-year-old, who was in the front passenger seat, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, her mother, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern. Authorities stated that no charges are anticipated at this time.
The girl attended Pamlico County Schools, which released a statement expressing sorrow over the loss. The statement highlighted her kind spirit and the impact she had on those around her, encouraging the community to support the family during this difficult time. “There are no words to ease this kind of pain,” the statement read, underscoring the importance of community support.
