NORTH LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A deadly crash on Simmons Street left a 17-year-old girl dead and a 19-year-old woman critically injured on Monday.
According to authorities, 31-year-old Triquan Huges was speeding and ran a red light while weaving through traffic in a northbound direction. Witnesses reported that Huges' vehicle collided with another car turning left from Craig Road, subsequently crashing into an electrical pole and striking two pedestrians.
Emergency crews pronounced the 17-year-old girl dead at the scene. The 19-year-old woman was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.
Authorities stated that Huges' 10-year-old son was present in the front seat during the incident. Following the crash, police noted a smell of alcohol on Huges' breath. He refused sobriety tests and a blood draw, as detailed in the arrest report. It also revealed he initially admitted to being struck but continued driving and attempted a U-turn before hitting the pole.
Huges is facing multiple charges, including reckless driving resulting in death and substantial bodily harm. He appeared in court Monday morning, with bail set at $250,000, and is scheduled to return on Wednesday.
