TUCSON, Ariz. (TNND) — A multi-car crash on Friday afternoon resulted in the death of a 3-year-old girl and serious injuries to her pregnant mother, according to authorities.
The accident occurred around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Valencia Road and Country Club Road. Officials confirmed that a Hyundai Genesis, driven by 22-year-old Christian Isaiah Randall, was speeding alongside a Dodge Charger when it collided with a Toyota Camry. The impact split the Camry in half, killing the child, identified as Anna, who was properly secured in a car seat.
Authorities said Randall and a 16-year-old boy are facing several charges, including second-degree murder and aggravated assault. The teenager's identity has not been released due to his status as a minor.
Randall sustained minor injuries and was arrested at the scene. He is currently held at the Pima County Adult Detention Complex on a $500,000 bond. The teenager was taken to the Pima County Juvenile Detention Center.
Police reported that the Charger fled the scene but was later located at a residence. Investigators determined both vehicles were traveling well above the speed limit. The Tucson Police Department is conducting an active investigation and thanked the community for its assistance.
