THOMASVILLE, Ala. – A two-vehicle crash on U.S. 43 near mile marker 90 has resulted in the death of a Thomasville police officer. The incident occurred at approximately 5:02 a.m. Wednesday.
According to law enforcement, 25-year-old Officer Dallas Hinton was operating his patrol vehicle when it struck the rear of a tractor-trailer. Following the collision, Hinton's vehicle erupted in flames, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Governor Kay Ivey issued a statement, expressing her condolences: “Today Alabama sadly mourns the loss of Officer Dallas Hinton, who lost his life this week while on duty. His sacrifice comes as a sudden and heavy blow, and he will be remembered for his courage and commitment.”
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Secretary Hal Taylor also paid tribute to Hinton, highlighting his dedication to service as both a United States Marine and a law enforcement officer. “Officer Hinton had already lived a life defined by service, and we grieve alongside his loved ones.”
The cause of the accident is under investigation. No additional details regarding the status of other involved parties have been released at this time.
