CINCINNATI (WKRC) — recalls nearly 1.5 million F-150 trucks due to a transmission issue that may increase crash risk.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed the recall affects 1,392,935 Ford F-150 trucks from the model years 2015 to 2017. The issue involves a potential loss of communication between the transmission range sensor and the powertrain control module, leading to unintended downshifting into second gear.

Affected vehicle owners are urged to take their trucks to authorized dealers for a complimentary software update to the powertrain control module.

NHTSA's interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk will be mailed on April 27, 2026, with further updates expected once a final remedy is available, projected for July 2026, according to the agency.
