Multiple Vehicle Fires on I-71 North Near Delaware County Cause Heavy Delays

An eight-vehicle crash with multiple fires closed Interstate 71 in both directions near State Route 36/U.S. Route 37 in Delaware County Saturday evening.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred at 6:27 p.m. and was classified as a “serious injury crash.”

Authorities said three people were transported to area hospitals; none were taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately released.

Both directions of I-71 were shut down near SR 36/US 37, and traffic backed up for several miles. Officials have not provided an estimated time for reopening.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, authorities said.
