ERROL, N.H. — One person is dead and another hospitalized following a head-on collision on Route 16 Friday evening.
The crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. and was initially reported as involving a car and a pedestrian. However, upon arrival, State Police confirmed that two vehicles were involved.
Preliminary investigations reveal that a 2024 GMC Sierra was traveling southbound while a 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer was headed northbound when both vehicles veered off the road and collided head-on. Despite efforts from good Samaritans and first responders, the driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC was transported to Androscoggin Valley Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Route 16 remained closed for approximately four hours as authorities conducted a roadside investigation. The identities of both drivers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
State Police are continuing to investigate all aspects of the crash and urge anyone with information to come forward.
