Tiger Woods Pleads Not Guilty to DUI Charges Following Rollover Crash in Florida
MARTIN COUNTY, FL — Tiger Woods, 50, pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges related to a rollover crash on April 14, according to court documents filed Tuesday.
Woods faces charges of driving under the influence with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. His attorney filed a waiver of arraignment, allowing him to skip the initial court appearance.
According to the arrest affidavit, Woods failed a field sobriety test after his Land Rover crossed double solid lines and struck a trailer, causing the vehicle to overturn. No other injuries were reported. First responders extracted Woods from the passenger side of the vehicle as the driver's side was pinned down.
Woods sustained no injuries and was released later that day from Martin County Jail. Authorities noted that Woods had bloodshot eyes and exhibited signs of impairment. He reported taking prescription medications earlier but denied alcohol consumption. Two hydrocodone pills were found in his pocket.
Witnesses said Woods was distracted while driving, looking at his cellphone. He was arrested shortly after 3 p.m., and subsequent tests showed no alcohol in his system, but he refused a urine test to assess other substances.
Woods' driver's license has been suspended, and he has a history of prior DUI incidents. The case is currently under investigation, and any additional charges may follow.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
