One man died in a crash early Wednesday morning on U.S. 85 in Brighton, which also caused a grass fire.
Brighton police responded to the incident at approximately 3:20 a.m. at the intersection of northbound U.S. 85 and 136th Avenue. A man driving a Volkswagen SUV drifted off the road, striking a traffic pole. The driver, who has not yet been identified, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities stated it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
U.S. 85 was closed in both directions between 120th Avenue and 144th Avenue due to the incident, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The highway was reopened by 2:58 p.m. Wednesday.
The crash ignited a grass fire in the vicinity, but crews from Brighton Fire Rescue successfully extinguished the flames.
