WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — A wrong-way driver caused a serious crash on Interstate 35 Wednesday afternoon, resulting in one fatality.
According to Sgt. Dan Wade, spokesperson for the West Des Moines Police Department, the incident occurred around 2:41 p.m. near EP True Parkway. A driver was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when the collision happened.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash. Minh Thi, 80, of West Des Moines, was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities confirmed that no charges are expected to be filed in connection with the incident.
Emergency responders from the West Des Moines Police Department and local medical units were on the scene. Lane closures were in effect during the investigation and cleanup.
