Victorville, CA – A 32-year-old man was killed early Friday morning after his Jeep Compass crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a semi-truck near an intersection in Victorville, according to authorities.
The crash occurred on October 9, 2026, at approximately 2:50 a.m. at the intersection of Hesperia Road and Winona Street.
Deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.
The deceased driver was identified as. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that Josue Z Chavez Salas, 32, of Apple Valley, was driving a Jeep Compass when he veered into the opposing lanes and struck a Freightliner semi-truck head-on.
Salas was declared dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver was not injured and cooperated with investigators.
Authorities said Salas was believed to have been driving under the influence at the time of the incident.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
