INDIANAPOLIS — A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash on the city's near west side late Sunday night.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), officers responded around 10:30 p.m. to West Michigan Street and Grande Avenue on reports of a person down. Capt. Rob Rider stated that the caller reported a body lying on the side of the road.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman who had been struck by a vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Capt. Rider indicated that the woman was riding her bike on West Cossell Road when she was hit from behind.
The vehicle involved fled the scene, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward through Crime Stoppers. IMPD has not released further details on the incident at this time.
Earlier on Sunday, a separate incident occurred when a 9-year-old boy was killed and a 5-year-old boy was injured in a hit-and-run crash on the northwest side. Authorities arrested a suspect shortly after the incident, and he has been primarily charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
