Fatal Crash on West Main Road in Middletown
MIDDLETOWN, RI — A fatal crash occurred early Thursday morning on West Main Road, prompting an investigation by the Middletown Police Department. Officers were dispatched to the scene near Linden Park around 1:20 a.m.
According to police, a vehicle traveling southbound veered off the road, striking a stone wall and a utility pole before catching fire. First responders managed to extract the driver and a front-seat passenger from the burning vehicle.
Tragically, a back-seat passenger was unable to be rescued and was pronounced dead at the scene. The two individuals who were removed from the vehicle were subsequently transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
